Beautiful, versatile, and spacious
This pan is wonderful and performs exactly as expected. My only complaint (which is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5) is that the handle isn't very comfortable or easy to hold. It's narrow and long and doesn't allow for a good solid grip. Otherwise, super happy with my purchase.

Multi-use everyday pan
This is a great multi-use everyday pan. I have used it for everything from scrambled eggs to fried chicken and have found it to be an excellent braiser for smaller cuts of meat. This is my all time favorite All-Clad piece and I do have multiple other pieces.

Love this (not so) little pan - 2 1/2 qt size
My gas range has large burners, so I’ve been searching for a smallish pan to make sauces and things. I found this fantastic pan after taking a cooking class at sur La Table. I love it because it is small enough for sauces, yet large enough to fit on my burners. The photo shows me making the tomato chutney that we made in class to go over grilled salmon. Perfect!

I'm inspired and hooked!!
I am a person who loves every aspect of cooking!! Because of this love, my dear husband gave me for Christmas, a 10 piece set of All Clad cookware. It was so beautiful I almost was afraid to use it. But, once I started I have not stopped in my absolute love of All Clad!!! Worth every dollar, quality is superb, and what a difference to cook with!!!! It inspired me to be a better cook. They are an investment and I will use them every day for the rest of my life. I have added many pieces to my set, most recently a saucier which I will get good use of. Why, if you are serious about cooking would you use anything else? One side note, keep them looking like new by using Bar Keepers Friend scouring powder every time you clean them to keep them bright and shiny. The Mercedes of cookware!!

Great pan

Best pan ever!
I've only had this pan for three weeks now, but it's already a favorite. It's big enough for just about any single-pan meal we make in our household, including soups, stews, and larger servings of pasta. It's worth every penny!

I recently moved and now my only cooking option is electric, so I have a glass top stove. I previously always used gas. My pans all have residue from gas cooking and I wanted to get some new sauté pans to use with the glass top. I already have experience with All Clad's high quality. Dimension on Stove top?

Dimension is given as 13"" excluding handle. But the sides are sloping. What is the diameter of the pan that actually sits on the cook-top? That is, the bottom of the pan

I have disappointing experiences with using stainless steel skillets for any meat: the meat invariably sticks to the pan, no matter what type of oil or butter you use. Is there a specific proofing procedure that you have to use to make the pan suitable for use with meats or eggs?

BEST ANSWER: Before you begin searing the meat, it should have a chance to warm up a bit at room temperature, say for 20 minutes or so, before you put it into a hot pan. Cold food going into a hot pan is a sure recipe for major sticking. Pat the surface of the meat dry before placing it in the hot oil. This is also a major problem that can cause sticking and a lot of sputtering oil. Make sure you use a cooking oil that will tolerate high heat such as canola oi or extra light olive oil. Use enough oil to lightly cover the bottom of the pan. Preheat the pan before adding the cooking oil because it takes the metal of the pan longer to come up to heat than it does the cooking oil. When the pan has had a chance to preheat a bit, then is the time to add the cooking oil. Allow the oil to heat up until you see the surface of the oil shimmer and creep across the bottom of the pan before you add the meat. Once the meat is in the pan, leave it alone--don't move it-- and allow it to sear for 2 or 3 minutes. It is supposed to stick to the bottom of the pan initially. This is all part of the browning process. If you see a bit of brown showing along the bottom sides of the meat, gently try to move the meat to see if it has released from the pan. When it has browned properly, it will release on its own. Check the color on the browned side. If it is to your liking, then turn the meat and, again, leave it alone and in place for at least 2 minutes to allow the browning process to happen. Once it releases on its own and the color is to your liking--success! If you are still having problems with the meat sticking, you may be allowing your pan to get too hot . If the oil smokes, the pan is definitely too hot. Ease back on the heat a bit. All Clad products are fantastic for creating a great sear on meat. If you follow my suggestions, I think you'll have less sticking problems.
Whats the difference between this pan and the 4 qt saute pan? Couldn't figure out any difference on the shape

BEST ANSWER: This is a hybrid between a saucepan (pot) and frying pan. It's great for making braises and allows more of your food to have contact with the surface for browning.
Is the Weeknight pan available in D5 finish? If not, are there plans to add a D5 finish in this pan in the near future?

BEST ANSWER: I use barkeepers friend to clean the pan. It works pretty well. I had a person tell me to use a cut lemon half on the pan with the cleaner to get the spots off. I have not tried it

BEST ANSWER: I don't know if you are asking the volume (which is 2.5 quarts) or the measurements of the pan. The base that sits on the stove is roughly 7 inches and opens up to 9 inches at the top. It is more "bowl shaped" instead of having straight sides like the typical sauce pan. It is a convenient pan to have and has held up nicely to regular use.
How similar is this to the 4 quart D5 Essential pan?
