Durable, timeless glassware—made in France since 1945.

Description

This collection of bowls is named after the Lys river because of its clarity, simplicity, utility and beauty—all characteristics of the river that runs through France and Belgium. A terrific set to use every day, these impact- and chip-resistant glass bowls are extremely durable and versatile. Suitable for hot and cold liquids, Duralex bowls are safe for the dishwasher, freezer and microwave. Plus, the collar on the rim allows the bowls to nest within each other to save cupboard space. Set includes 1-oz., 2-oz., 4-oz., 7-oz., 10-oz., ½-qt., 1-qt., 1½-qt., 2½-qt. and 3½-qt. size bowls.

Since 1945, the Duralex factory in France has pioneered the production of tempered glass —a durable, nonporous material that’s two-and-a-half times stronger than any ordinary glass. Thanks to shatterproof construction, if broken, the glass becomes small chunks instead of jagged shards—so cleanup is safe and easy. As pretty as it is practical, Duralex is the glassware of choice for hotels and restaurants around the world.

Nice, a bit heavy
I really like these. Taking off one star because the set is heavier than other nesting bowl sets I've used, and it's hard for some members of the family to take them out of the cupboard easily. But durable and pretty, and the etched bands help you keep your grip.

Arrived Chipped
I wanted to love these "durable" bowls but upon arrival the largest of the stacking set was chipped around the edge.

I would have returned this, but as I was mid move and the bowl is still usable I kept the set with the chip.

Nice set of bowls. Need to know how to fix a problem with one bowl, during manufacturing one bowl was left with a burr on the inside. Need to fix before I use, don't really want to eat glass.

Great deal and high quality!
It's a great deal although be aware that they're not huge (the biggest one is like a standard big mixing bowl). The smallest one is comically small (holds one ounce). But they're great quality, are easy to store, and I've been really pleased by baking with them so far. I love that they're microwavable, too.

I owned a set of these and loved them. I put them in our second home. I purchased another set of stackable bowls that are not Duralex to replace those--they are not the same quality or durability. So I am purchasing these to have in our primary home too.

Can you use for a Bain Marie

Rather than use a double boiler I use bowls for making such things as pastry creme and hollandaise sauce. Will these bowls work?
Dorine on Jul 16, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It's not recommended that you use glass bowls for a Bain Marie.
Can you use in the oven?
A shopper on Dec 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Actually, Duralex says they are not oven safe. They have a special oven-safe line you can buy, but I'm not sure if Sur la Table carries it.
Can these be used in a convection oven?
A shopper on Dec 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I wouldn't. I don't think they're borosilicate glass.
Are these glass bowls?
A shopper on Sep 25, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes, they are like the American pyrex glass. They are very sturdy and have a little weight to them.
Can you youse these bowls to create a double boiler?
Veronique D on Dec 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No, it is not recommended.
Are these Duralex bowls oven proof like Pyres bowls are?
Patty M on Aug 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have only used these bowls in the microwave and love the fact I can put them in the dishwasher. These are my "go to" everyday bowls! They are also freezer safe but I have not utilized the bowls in the freezer.
Can I use an electric mixer in these bowl?
Kim H on Jan 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can but they're not as deep as other mixing bowls.
What is the total weight of just all of the bowls stacked together?
A shopper on Nov 25, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I ordered online and had them shipped. Total weight was ~11 pounds. They're tempered glass, and they're heavy
Can they go into a 250° oven?
A shopper on Dec 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The manufacturer specifications say not to use Duralex in the oven. Also do not pour cold foods into a hot dish if the temperature difference is greater than 200 degrees. This glassware cannot be used on direct heat, such as the stove top or oven.
Are these bowls microwaveable?
A shopper on Jan 9, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I do it all the time. And I LOVE them.
Do these bowls scratch when a hand held mixer is used?
Caroline L on May 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have been using the largest bowl of the set with a hand held kitchenaid mixer for a year, with no scratching or issues.
Can i bake bread in these bowls?
A shopper on Nov 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have never baked bread in them. Specifications say they are good up to 266 derees F. I think I would bake bread in different containers. They are very durable, diswahable, and microwave safe
The glass can be put in the freezer but are the lids freezer safe?
Debbie L on Jan 9, 2019
BEST ANSWER: My set did not come with lids.
Can you add a 12" bowl to this set? 10" is just quite big enough for large pasta meals or salad tossing.
A shopper on Apr 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The 12"/6qt bowl.is sold separately at SLT and nests just fine with this set.
What is the diameter of the largest bowl? The height of the stack? I wonder if they will fit in my shallow cupboard?
A shopper on Feb 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: the largest bowl is 10 inches across and 4 inches high
Stacked all the bowls inside each other on top of the counter and went to bed. Was shocked to see in the morning that the smallest bowl evidently exploded and shattered during the night scattering glass all over the counter. I took pictures because I couldn’t believe it. Has this ever happened to anyone else before?
Michelle P on Feb 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We use these bowls every day. They go in the dishwasher, microwave, etc. The only time one broke was because a small one dropped into the garbage disposal and we didn't know until we turned it on. Wasn't pretty picking glass out of there. Sorry to hear you had an issue. Was the bowl that broke tight down in another bowl? You know how water glasses sometimes break when stacked.
I realize these do not come with lids, however, does anyone know of lids that will fit Duralex bowls? Lids would be SO handy especially if available separately so customers could chose the size(s) they wanted.
Shauna I on Jan 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have some Pampered Chef silicone lids that work on some of my bowls.
Can you put these in an instant pot pressure cooker?
A shopper on Sep 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I really have never done that but I am going to say no.
Can I order replacements for an bowls I've broken?
Stephen L on Jul 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, we carry the Duralex Lys Clear Stackable Bowls individually.
