Duralex Lys Clear Stackable Bowls
These little bowls are so perfectly constructed, well-balanced and easily cleaned, that I wish now I'd ordered additional sizes. In fact, planning to do so very soon.

What I needed
I have brightly colored dishes, four of each color. The clear glass and the size were what I needed for ice cream, puddings, berries, etc.

Great bowls
This whole series is just a great set of prep bowls, easy to handle, plenty of sizes, and they've survived multiple falls to the floor. They also look good enough to serve stuff in.

Good quality, great selection and durable.
Good quality bowls. They feel a bit fragile but seem to be holding up well under normal use. Replaced all my Tupperware and Pyrex with these. I like that Sur la Table helped me order the sizes I wanted that weren't available in their store. And gave me free shipping!

I have three of them. I love them. They are lightweight and large enough for me to make batches of bread- that is my primary use of this item. I bought this one to send to my son because I want to make bread and he does not have a bowl that is big enough

Perfect for mise en place, particularly for small amounts of spices. It is hard to find prep bowls this small in most stores, so I'm glad to get them at Sur La Table.

Because I these are very handy when I cut up salads and do not wish to put all the vegetables in the large bowl. Very often people like to add just the vegetables they like so with bowls they can choose only what they like.

These are the most used bowls in my kitchen. They are so versatile from cooking to eating. I keep 6 of each size in my cabinets. I use also use the fun Charles Viancin lids to store the bowls in the refrigerator. They are my favorite wedding present. All the way from 1 oz to 112oz.

I bought the Lys set with a little apprehension. I had a set from W/S that lasted years but eventually wore out around the edges - chips and breaks. I bought another set a year or two ago from Crate & Barrel and those chipped and broke almost immediately. They were horrible. After using the Duralex picardi glasses for years, I thought I should go with what I knew. So far the set has been indestructible. I needed the 6qt because it did not come with the set.

These Duralex Lys Glass bowls are so wonderful & versatile to use in the kitchen. From storing a small quantity of something in the fridge to serving a small portion of food on your dinner plate like baked beans or coleslaw, these are great. I use them all the time. They are made of sturdy glass which I love for cleanliness & aesthetics.

1.6 quart- 7 7/8" D X 3 1/4" H

6 quart- 12 1/4" D X 4 7/8" H
7 oz- 4 1/8" D X 1 5/8" H
Which sizes are most frequently used?

I want to use the mis en place approach to meal preparation and am using more complicated recipes.
A shopper on Feb 25, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The answer to this question depends largely on how one chooses to organize recipe ingredients for miss en place. I too use some more complicated recipes. I have 2 each of the 1 oz. and 2 oz. sizes for spices, and 3 each of the 4 oz. and 10 oz. sizes for chopped ingredients such as celery. While I might use a separate bowl for each ingredient, if there are a few ingredients that are added to the recipe at the same time I will combine them in one larger prep bowl, which reduces clean-up. The advantage to these particular bowls is that they combine in one stack so easily for storage. Being able to buy bowls individually means that you have the luxury of observing what you need over a period of time (and using many recipes) to determine which bowls and how many work for you.
Can these be used as a double boiler?

I was told that these bowls can be used as a double boiler insert by placing it on top of a pot and melting the chocolate or frosting in it. Has anyone used them like that? Do they work well? Will they endure the heat and not break, etc? Thanks in advance
A shopper on Feb 7, 2012
BEST ANSWER: It is not recommended as these are only safe to 266°F and not oven safe.
Can you put the bowls in the oven?
A shopper on Apr 28, 2014
BEST ANSWER: No, these bowls are not oven safe.
are there lids for the 10 oz bowls?
A shopper on Sep 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Not that I'm aware of. The set does not come with them. Pyrex does make glass bowls with rubber lids.
Can I bake stuff in these glass bowls?
A shopper on Dec 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have never used these in the oven, only the microwave. I believe they are freezer, dishwasher and microwave safe, but I don't think it would be safe to bake with them.
Do these have the decorative, twin etched lines in them or is the outside smooth except for the one ridge?
Melissa L on Nov 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: i wish I could tell you, yet they are in my NYC apartment, and I am currently in New Hampshire. I will say this, however, I find the Duralex bowls and plates invaluable for everyday life, entertaining and decorating for the holidays - they look great with chocolates, etc. If you order bowls from Sur La Table, make sure they arrive without breakage. The store had to replace a few after shipping breakage. I am really sorry that I can't pull them out of a cupboard and look for you. Best wishes for the holidays and 2019, Kathy
Can the bowls be used as measuring cups? For example, is the bottom of the rim the marker for 2 oz, 4 oz, etc?
Rhonda T on Mar 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: There are no capacity markings.
which size would be best for mixing a cake?
A shopper on Nov 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It depends on the size cake you are mixing. Your choice would be between the 3.5 quart and the 6 quart bowls. By the way, the 6 quart bowl can really only hold 5 quarts. I use these 2 sizes a lot, the most actually, out of the 11 sizes Duralex makes. The 3.5 quart bowl works well as a salad bowl to toss lettuce for me and my husband and the 6 quart bowl is a necessity when I make a double batch of pumpkin soup or a large roasted tomato soup, or to toss my Thanksgiving stuffing before baking it (I bake it in 2 baking dishes, the Pyrex French white oval ones). This should give you an idea of what these bowls can do.
Wondering which size would be BEST for a cereal bowl?
A shopper on Oct 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I'm not sure any of these sizes would work. The 10oz would be a very small cereal bowl & the next size up--the 1qt--would be a very large one.
If I stacked two 6 quart bowls together would I be able to easily get them apart?
Would it work on May 28, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes, these bowls nest and come apart easily
What is the measurement of the 16.9 oz bowl I now see listed?

On another site, I saw a 5 1/2""bowl from this line. Since I am looking for a replacement for another set of bowls I use constantly, this is the size I would prefer. I hope it is a match
A shopper on Aug 22, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Capacity: 16.9 ozDiameter: 5 1/2""Height: 2 1/4"
I needed another set of these for another location. May old set includes a much larger bowl than what I received. Is there another set that includes that larger bowl that is perfect for cake mixing? The largest included in this set is 10 1/4 ".
