disappointed
could hardly wait to try this pan! The shrimp stuck so bad we had to scrape them out with a spoon. Have used and have many cast iron pans but never had one stick so bad.
Sorry as far as I am concerned waste of money for both pan and shrimp

Use Weber Performance grill and use hardwood charcoal with fresh cut alder or other smoking wood. The smoke flavor and hardwood charcoal will make the shrimp very tasty and this cast iron shrimp cooking appears to make the grilling/organizing easier with the added advantage of maintaining the juices. Also, can use it to serve the shrimp. Appears to be the right thing for grilling shrimp, we'll see how it works.

Is there a starter recipe provided that tells you how to use the pan?
A shopper on Aug 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No recipe provided, but here is what I do. Quantities are approximate: for 2 lbs. large shrimp (shelled, tails left on), mix a marinade of 1/2 cup olive oil or 1/2 cup butter (melted and cooled); 1-2 cloves garlic, finely minced; 2 tbsp scallions, minced; 1 tsp fresh ground black pepper; 1/4 cup lemon juice; dash of hot sauce. Marinate the shrimp in the mixture in the refrigerator, no more than 3-4 hours or shrimp will become mushy. Set out the shrimp about 30 minutes before cooking begins. Heat grill to medium high. Put the pan on the grill and when it's hot enough that a drop of water dances on it, use tongs to place the shrimp in the pan. Cook 5-6 minutes--but this really depends on the size of the shrimp and the heat of your fire. This is not a dish to walk away from. When shrimp are cooked to your liking, remove and push the pan to a cooler part of the grill. (Makes it easier to clean.) I also tried making seasoned butter and putting a dab in each segment of the preheated pan and then putting the shrimp in. Fussy and tough to pull off!
Can you use this in the oven too?
Sheryl T on May 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Sure, good for the oven too.
I have used it on a charcoal grill and in the oven.
I use it to make shrimp scampi.
This dish calls for very high temperatures.
Works great for that.
Heavy duty cast iron.
After use I clean then dry in a 200degree oven, then apply a liberal amount of peanut oil.
Season's the cast iron well and is ready for next meal.
My first thought when I saw this was how hard would it be to clean. One commenter said it was hard to clean. Do any owners want to comment?
Ellen R on Oct 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Cleaning is easier if the pan is not left to sit empty on a hot grill. Once the pan is cool enough to handle, I use a paper towel to wipe out loose matter; then a dedicated toothbrush and some water for scrubbing. To prevent rust, towel-dry the pan and then apply a thin coat of oil. Return to a warm grill or 350-degree oven for 20-30 minutes to dry.
Are the shrimp cooked in the shell?
A shopper on Jun 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I believe you can do so. I, however, cleaned and deveined the shrimp but left the tail on. It is much easier to remove them from the pan that way. I put mine in a light marinade before cooking. Be sure you spray the pan however beforehand to avoid the shrimp from sticking.
Does this work well for bacon wrapped shrimp?
Diana E on May 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You would want to precook your bacon (until almost done) before wrapping the shrimp because the shrimp itself cooks through in just a few minutes. You'd never cook the bacon from raw and still have tender shrimp. But, YES The pan would work well, it's fabulous.
Oven temperature?
A shopper on Feb 25, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have only used this on my grill, however, if I were going to use it in the oven, I would think 400-425 would best mimic the heat of the grill
What temperature do you grill the shrimp & do you put the lid down?
A shopper on Jul 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Heat the pan on the grill till smoking hot, have the shrimp ready (marinated, buttered, etc), quickly place in each indentation and shut the grill lid. A few minutes and they are done.
Is this cast iron preseasoned?
A shopper on Jun 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It is not preseasoned. I scrubbed my pan thoroughly with plain water, dried; then used paper towels to cover the entire pan with a light coating of vegetable oil. If the oil pools, wipe up the excess. Bake for 60 min. in 350-degree oven: Turn the pan upside-down on the oven rack, over a drip pan or big sheet of aluminum foil. After 1 hour, turn off oven and let pan cool.
What temp in oven?
A shopper on Aug 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I did it at 350 degrees for about 15 to 20 minutes
