Care & Usage Show

  • Suitable for all cooktops including induction
  • Wash the interior with hot water and a soft sponge. If there is food stuck to the pan, cool the wok then soak in hot water until food is loose, about five minutes, and then gently scrub. Rinse well and place wok on stovetop over low heat until it is completely dry. Coat the pan lightly with vegetable oil and wipe clean with a paper towel before storing.

Best wok ever!
This wok is made of carbon steel and needs to be seasoned, but that is easy. It has a great nonstick surface from the first use and is large enough to toss the food around. It has a large enough flat bottom to sit on the stove without any tipping. This wok is really fun to use!

Clearing up confusion: It's Iron. Dimensions follow too.
Would like to help with confusion around dimensions and material. It's clearly Iron. Not like the heavy Cast Iron found in America. More like the thin iron you see in high-end Japanese woks. Very elegant, light and unbelievably easy to season. Wok without lid weighs 3.77 lbs. See photos for more details. It's a beauty. Helper handle looks a bit large, but that size serves a purpose: it doesn't heat up. Remember to season the back of your wok too!

Great Wok!
This is a great wok. It is easy to lift due to the lighter weight & the assist handle. The carbon steel cleans up really well, much easier than my much heavier carbon steel skillet. Can;t explain it but it works really well.

I believe Kimball that the standard stove cannot handle a traditional wok. Only flat bottom or a flat non-stick will work. I trust that reasoning.

Everything on this website says this wok is made of carbon steel. I received mine a couple of days ago and the information on the box, as well as the literature inside the box, says it is made of iron. I know that iron is the main ingredient in steel, but obviously iron and carbon steel are not the same thing. Can someone explain this?

BEST ANSWER: This is a carbon steel skillet, however, since a main element is iron, the literature designates it as such. Viewing the product image, you can see the obvious difference between a cast iron skillet and a carbon steel skillet.
Can it be used on an electric stove?

BEST ANSWER: Yes. While I use it on a gas burner, there is no reason you can't use it on an electric burner. The bottom area of the pan is flat, the sides are much like a wok; it should heat up nicely on most heat sources. Excellent for searing meat, by the way!
How lengthy is the seasoning process?

BEST ANSWER: Basically none . . . I put little oil on it the first time I used it. Then, afterwards, wiped it clean with a paper towel, filmed a little more oil (canola) on it, heated it again, let it cool, then one final wipe with a paper towel.

This is my routine maintenance for all of my cast iron and carbon steel implements. If there is sticky residue, I generally use a Lodge™ plastic scraper to remove it and then repeat the routine maintenance. This pan has proved to require less work than most of my other carbon steel skillets. Great for stir frying.
What is the diameter of the flat bottom?

BEST ANSWER: It's 7 inches, so it can fit on even a smaller eye or burner. It works great on an induction cooktop. Also cleans up amazingly if you've seasoned it.
Is there any non-stick coat?

BEST ANSWER: No, this is a carbon steel pan. It needs to be seasoned, like any carbon steel or cast iron cookware.

BEST ANSWER: Despite the carbon steel construction, this wok is fairly light weighing only 3.5 lbs without the lid. The assist handle makes it easier to lift and empty, plus it cleans easily. It’s good.
Is this Wok safe for glass top stoves?

BEST ANSWER: Yes. I have a glass top induction stove and it works beautifully. I seasoned it prior to using per instructions and nothing sticks. Wonderful pan.
What is its steel gage or thickness?

BEST ANSWER: I just measured it at the edge, about 1 mm. However, it seems thicker on the bottom, flat area, perhaps twice as thick. Whole wok feels very sturdy and well made. So far, it has handled my stir fry and meat searing very well.
