Great Pan
This pan is just what I was wanting. I wanted a 12 inch cast iron pan but one that was not as heavy as the typical 12 inch pan. This Chef Skillet is a little lighter because the sides are thinner with the added bonus of being curved. It has the typical Lodge pebbly surface but is still nice and smooth. Cooks eggs over easy with no problem, veggies, and sears steaks beautifully. I am happy with this skillet.

Have Been Needing This
I think this is great and a bargain, to boot. I have been hesitant for years to buy something like this because of the unwieldy heaviness. This one is super.

Love it, medium low to fry on gas stove, not to heavy but heavy enough to stay in place so you don’t have to hold.

Not too heavy, great sloping sides
This has earned a permanent place on my stovetop. The 10 inch size was all I needed and it's much easier to use and clean than my Mom's old one was, since hers was heavy and had steep, vertical sides.

Is it my imagination or does the food taste better when I use this? However, don't use acidic sauces in it like tomato sauce or that won't happen!

Lodge Chef Series Skillet 12-inch
There are 9 coats of flax-oil seasoning on the pan and one coat of bacon grease from frying bacon, and fried eggs still stick as if they've been super-glued on. As a result, I can't make fried eggs in the pan. To get the eggs out, I have to basically scramble them. The bacon stuck a bit, too, but I was able to get the strips out on one piece.

Why did you choose this?
Sur La Table Store
I'm going to smooth these out and give them away as gifts, now that they've been available long enough to find on sale. The Chef's Skillet, IMO, eliminates the need to look for old Griswold or Wagner Ware skillets.

These are tomorrow's heirlooms--especially if sanded smooth!
Dino M on May 20, 2019
I have chosen this skillet because it weights less the the regular cast iron skillets

A shopper on Jun 4, 2018
Where can I find the recipe for that berry/biscuit cobbler?
Jasmin C on May 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The name of the recipe is Summer Berry Cobbler and it is listed under the recipes on our site.
Is there a lid that will fit the 10” Chef Series cast iron skillet securely? I only see the 10.25” Lodge glass lid available.
A shopper on Jun 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The 8 in., 10.25 in., and 12 in. lids are the only sizes available.
Do I need to oil the chef series skillet after use? It doesn’t specify in care and use tab.
A shopper on Jun 26, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you should always oil your cast iron pans after use. The Lodge pans are nice because they are pre-seasoned, but it's up to you to keep the seasoning going.
Is the finish smooth like antique pans or pebbled like some of the more modern pants?
A shopper on Jun 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It is more on the smooth side, but the reduced weight is amazing! Old hands and wrists really appreciate that! Everything else is the Lodge product we all know and love!
What is the thickness of the bottom of this pan?
A shopper on Dec 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I actually don’t have the answer to that question.!However I do use the pan for frying, baking and searing meat and/or veggies. My family and I love how well it cooks.
Is this washed with dish soap or plain water?
A shopper on Apr 29, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Cast iron skillets without the enamel coating get washed (rinsed) with hot water and a brush or scraper if needed. Then dry with towel, place on stove, heat, apply a little oil in the skillet and rub into it. Just a very thin layer. There are times you may need to add water to the skillet for a short time to soften the cooked on food before washing. If the skillet happens to get washed with soap, apply a thin layer of oil to all parts of the skillet and heat in oven, then wipe off excess oil. If skillet rusts, scrub rust off and do the same thing. Use your skillet often, that’s the key. Good call on the Lodge brand!
Can you use this on (non-induction) glass stovetops?

BEST ANSWER: I have cooked with cast iron cookware on gas, induction, and traditional cooktops. Cast iron is incredibly versatile in this regard; however, if you drag the cookware you will scratch glass cooktops. You must lift and place...not slide.
Is the Lodge cast iron skillet sku 4047080 compatible with induction stoves?
Veronika K on May 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is induction compatible.
