A joy to use
I had to cook three batches for a party. I used a Le crueset pot, a staub pot and a silver seal pot. Hands down the Staub was the best. I’m a convert. Love it!

Great looking as well as great for cooking
When switching to induction I decided to invest in high quality cookware since I had to replace most of mine anyway. I chose Staub for its vaulted quality and attractive looks. I have been pleased so far with their cooking performance and they look so great I keep one or two of them on the cooktop at all times. What I have found is since they are not massed produced the quality of the pot itself is not always what you would expect for a pot of this price and reputation. This particular pot had an obvious paint drip on the side of the cover. Since it is not on the side of the pot where it would be truly noticeable I decided to keep it. I did get it on sale. If I had paid full price I would have definitely returned it.

I am duplicating a previous order. I love my black Staub vessel with the rooster knob. It cooks like a dream. From using as a deep fryer, slow simmering beans, baking bread....it’s a champion! I have several other Staub cooking vessels. I’ll continue to add to my collection...which will last my lifetime ,and , be inherited by my daughter!!!

It is wonderful for one pot cooking and easy cleaning.
Ruth H on Dec 2, 2018
Recommended by my sister, and it’s a good size for many of my oven recipes. Since it’s cast iron, it will also allows me to brown foods, etc. on top of the stove first instead of having to use a separate pan in combination with a ceramic baking dish.

Is there any difference between the oval cocotte and the coq au vin?
A shopper on Oct 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I did a google search for your question and you will be happy to know that several people have had the same question. From what I read it seems as though what they are called has more to do with the knob and what you would cook in the coq a vin than shape or size. Both are oval and and come in different sizes but the coq a vin has a rooster knob and the cocotte has a plain metal knob and since coq in French means rooster/cock it makes perfect sense. But coq a vin is a chicken dish that would be tasty made in either pot. Hope this helps.
Is the lid knob removeable?
A shopper on Feb 17, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Yes it is removable. Staub actually sells multiple knobs that you can switch if you like.
will the 5 3/4 Q staub coq au vin coquette fit a full chicken or turkey for roasting?
A shopper on May 3, 2011
BEST ANSWER: It will fit a chicken, but not a turkey
How do you decide which size to buy and whether to get the oval versus round shape?
Virginia E on Jan 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If you are cooking for four or more people go with the larger size. If you are cooking for yourself and maybe one or two others then the smaller should be fine. Of course most recipe's we cook in the Coq au Vin make for great leftovers - so the larger size allows you cook extra. We liked the oval shape for the simple fact that normal sized poultry fits perfectly and the larger size allows us to add lots of vegetables. This is a beautiful dish and has become a mainstay in our kitchen.
How much does this 4 1/2 qt pot weigh and what is its dimentions?
joann f on Jul 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The Coq au Vin is quite heavy, it is 6 inches deep, 9 inches wide and 11 1/2 inches long. It is a very nice size and cleans up very easily. Everything you cook in this turns out very juicy and tender!
Does this come with a plain knob or the rooster or both?
Sharon W on Dec 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: First, this pot is wonderful. You will pass it on to future generations. My wife abd I use it fir SO many things.
Pot comes with the plain knob. But save your receipt.
Staub includes an offer with the pot.
If you send them proof of purchase over a certain amount, they will send you a custom knob of your choice. I have the rooster on mine and it is just fabulous.

I have a flat ceramic stove top. Is this suitable to use?
juliet l on Jan 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: so long as the pot in question has a flat bottom (Staub does) and one lifts and does not slide, should be ok. Am very pleased with the Staub pot.
How much does the pot weigh?
Robin A on Jul 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The pot with the lid is 14.5lbs. Without the lid it is 9.5lbs.
