I am very pleased with my kitchen aid pasta maker. I enjoy being able to make macaroni of different shapes, I have a different pasta machine but can only make spaghetti and such with that. I am still having trouble finding the perfect recipe though. The recipe that came with the machine is a bit to stiff but because you need to place balls into the hopper the dough can't be to loose. I would
Recommend the extruded as an addition to your kitchen.

Easy to Use
I have a hand pasta maker which I really love but wanted to make some round items. Might have to trade I the other now as I love not needing to spend so much time rolling and blending dough. Perfect spaghetti on the first try. Next we go for macaroni!

I was excited about easily making homemade pasta shapes, but was disappointed with this Kitchenaid attachment. Although I tried 3 different pasta recipes, none of them came out well. I ended up using my old kitchenaid rollers which worked fine. I returned it as it wasn’t worthy of shelf space in my pantry.

Make sure to securely attach the extruder
I've only used this attachment once - I hope to try it again soon. My first attempt was with bucatini. Running the KA on speed 10 (as per the directions) is pretty loud AND if you don't have the darn thing fully attached (I could swear I did), you'll have a heavy projectile launching through your kitchen. The plastic ring that holds the thin blade for cutting the pasta broke in two pieces. There are NO replacement parts for this. We're attempting to superglue this back together. I'm glad the piece still works - it's just missing the cutter right now. I think it's ridiculous that KA doesn't have replacement parts for this.
It takes quite a while for the pasta to come out the chute.
The extruder spun through the air when it became detached from the Kitchen Aid mixer.

This pasta attachment works fantastic! We made rigatoni! So fresh! Just do a few practice runs and you are set! Read the instructions and you will be good to go!

Very disappointed
I bought the extruded with high expectations but it didn't even come close. I used the rigatoni disc for my first time. The pasta was way too thick. I don't know if the dough was too dry or is this just the way these are but it was not good. I will make a second attempt soon but for now I'm just disappointed.

Wish I bought it sooner
Previously only had manual pasta roller/cutter. My daughter gave me the attachment to replace the manual roller/cutter. It was great. So, I decided to see if there were other pasta attachments for my Kitchen Aid. Found the extruder and have loved it. Even had a pasta party with friends who had never made homemade pasta. Everyone was so happy with thier creations.

Love the addition to our kitchen aid
Takes a little bit of practice but once you get the hang of it, it is great. Also helps to have another pair of hands, not necessary, but helpful!

Does this include the 6 pasta plates to make the different sizes of pasta?
A shopper on Jan 27, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This extruder includes six plates to make fresh strands of spaghetti or bucatini pastas, and short pastas like rigatoni, fusilli, large macaroni or small macaroni
Does the spaghetti die make the noodles thin enough for string hoppers?
Nicole T on Mar 19, 2017
The pasta plate has a plastic piece inside a metal cap. Does anyone have any problem with the 2 pieces separating?
Wendy C on Apr 11, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I just used my machine for the first time this weekend. I tried the fusilli plate first then switched to the rigatoni. After making the rigatoni I was able to pull apart the plastic piece from the metal cap and clean it right away. There was some dough in between the plastic and metal cap so that created enough space to get my finger nail in between it to pry it apart. The fusilli plate was a different problem. I couldn't get it apart so I let it dry overnight but it still wouldn't separate. I put the plate in a bowl of boiling water and let it soak for five minutes. I was then able to pry it apart enough to stick a thin bladed knife in the space to pry it open all the way (watch those fingers!) There was no leftover pasta in between the plastic piece and metal cap. Too bad there isn't some type of overhanging lip in the plastic piece that you could use to pry the two apart when you are finished using the plate. My next idea if the hot water didn't work was to put it in the freezer to see if the metal would contract enough to be able to separate the two. Luckily I didn't need to resort to that option.
does it make angel hair spaghetti?
A shopper on Dec 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It does not. The product description provides the pasta options offered. There is however the pasta cutter attachment that does offered by KitchenAid. I use it often!
Do you need to roll out dough if you're going to just use the pasta extruder?
A shopper on Jan 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, rolling out the dough first is not necessary. After the dough is made, just break off walnut size chunks and feed it into the hopper. You can use the included tool to push the dough down further if necessary.
does it make angel hair pasta?
Marilyn D on Dec 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, it does not. The smallest or thinnest pasta would be spaghetti. You might want to look at the KitchenAid pasta roller and cutters, specifically the capellini cutter to cut pasta sheets into angel hair pasta. We are happy with the extruded and the roller.
I have to eat grain-free for medical reasons. I can not use wheat, all-purpose, or rice flour. I use almond, coconut and quinoa flours for my pasta, so it is a different consistency. Anyone know if this would work with this or gum it up?
J H on May 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I really have no idea, but if the alternate pasta is as "floured" and unsticky as the regular pasta should be, it should be ok. I wouldn't use the spaghetti attachment, however, just the larger shapes. The spaghetti sticks on the best of days.
